With the ever growing market for twitch streaming and the viable option to make it a full time career, we are looking at some of the darker elements of the online game streaming site with various means of ‘cheating’ the viewer or contradicting the twitch rules and regulations. Some of these rule breakers are some of the more reputable twitch streamers that have broken rules by using view bots and breaking rules like playing banned games, showing videos that are not allowed and ‘showing too much flesh.’
This has been thrown back into the foreground with a prolific Hearthstone streamer by the name of Massan being accused and finally banned for stream sniping at tournaments and view bots in his stream.
But what does ‘view botting’ and ‘stream sniping’ mean and are these rules and regulations acceptable causes to get a streamer banned? lets have a look at a few of the more prominent rules.
View bots are as it sounds, bots that are used to raise the amount of viewers to a single streamer, the more viewers, the higher you are in the list and the more popular your stream looks. This is easily noticed because streamers don’t naturally get 1,500 to 3000 viewers in a matter of 10 minutes then stay around that number for the rest of the stream. Many streamers have begun calling out others for not having genuine viewers.
As well as Massan being banned due to allegations of sniping and using view bots, a Counterstrike player by the ID stickyrice1 has had alot of people stating that he uses view bots.
Stream sniping is a form of cheating where you watch your opponents stream while playing against them, this can also be done in tournament setting by watching your opponents play each other on a broadcasted tournament that you are a part of to get the upper hand.
Cheating in online games
Any form of online cheating such as hacking, botting, or tampering that gives the account owner an unfair advantage in a online multiplayer game is prohibited. Stream sniping and harassment is also under this category but I felt that sniping is worth its own paragraph.
Playing banned or overly gory/sexualised games
Its pretty simple really, don’t play games that your not supposed to. Here is the list of current banned games on twitch. There was recent uproar by the developer of Yandere Simulator about his game being banned but as it is about a high school girl torturing, killing and taking photos of the underwear of girls that get too close to her crush, it sounds like it is a fitting game to ban.
Artificial Academy 1 & 2
Kamidori Alchemy Meister
Purin to Ohuro
Sakura Beach 1 & 2
What’s under your blanket !?
Inappropriate Broadcaster Behaviour and Attire
Anything from hate speech including racist, religious and homophobic rants, overly sexualised behaviour or clothing to pranks that go too far.
Brittany Venti – most likely banned for racist comments – perma ban
Legendary Lea – Most likely for suggestive attire – timed ban
Trick2g – Banned for fake Swatting himself – indefinite ban
