Well, what do you know? Hot off the heels of yesterday’s trademark leaks, Nintendo have announced that Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon are indeed the next main iterations of the massively popular Pokemon franchise. Announced in the latest Nintendo Direct today (26th Feb 2016), a video was shown that pulled on our nostalgic heart strings by having kids play on Gameboy Color’s whilst using link cables and not pulling them out if they were about to lose. Unheard of.
So, what do we know about the new titles? Well, not a lot actually. They are releasing it in 9 languages, up from the usual 7, as well as giving it a release window of ‘Late 2016’. Apart from the expected console of choice, the Nintendo 3DS, that’s all we know unfortunately. Whilst I personally would have wanted a bit more to wet my Snorlax-esque appetite, the hype is strong in this one. They did also note, however, that Pokemon Bank would be updated to allow Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow creatures to be transferred to the new games upon release, so not all your enjoyment will be in vain.
With this year and, specifically, tomorrow being Pokemon’s 20th anniversary (in Japan at least), you can expect many more surprises and announcements when it comes to this beloved franchise over the next 10 months. Pokken tournament lands next month, followed by, hopefully, Pokemon Go for smartphones soon after. You can expect to hear more about the new titles in this year’s Nintendo Direct at E3, with a release expected for either September or October if we’re going off of what they have done in the past. What did you hope for this announcement? Was it all over too quickly? Let us know below!
