Those of us who are already Diablo players have had a great week, mainly due to the new 2.4 patch put in place for PC and console.
Since it’s launch in 2012, the guys at Blizzard have been giving us improvements through patches which just adds to this already vast game, with many aspect that can have you spending countless hours after completing the main story, going into adventure mode just to grind to get the best loot, set gear, crafting for the Kanai Cube or to level up on paragon points, through bounties or rifts.
On to patch 2.4, the new gear, extended areas, set dungeons and a brand new area shows that Blizzard has alot of love for the dungen crawler in all of us and has faith in the francise. Lets go deeper into this extended patch and see what new goodies the guys at Blizzard have made for us.
Greyhollow Island is a brand new adventure mode area just ouside of Westmarch. A stormy forest island that harbours new creatures and lore. It is clearly been a labour of love of the development team and we can see this in the imagery, the added story through lore books found throughout the island and a very peculiar man that no matter how many times you kill him, he comes back and to add to the spooky aspect, knows that he has been killed countless times. This area is relatively small in size but the mysterious island has alot of secrets that will have you coming back multiple times to truely understand what happened.
The Blizzard team wrote this little paragraph to get us immersed into the new area
Set dungeons give you a new reason for grinding for loot and utalising the Kanai Cube, set deep in Leorics library is a book that you can only read if you are wearing a full 6 piece set of gear, then the book will reveal the location of a set specific dungeon, completing the area will grant you exclusive cosmetic rewards.
The next level of the nephalim rifts and a step up from the greater rifts. The way to open these empowered rift is to spend your gold to empower a greater rift, in doing so you get a chance to get a fourth chance to upgrade a legendary gem, the cost of these empowered rifts vary with tier difficulty and the bonuses are only granted on completion of the rift, so be wise with your tier selection.
The issues with the console patch
Recently there have been some news of lag, clipping and glitches from console users, I myslef have seen some small frame drops and our very own Nick Hanchet had an issue with blood shard pick ups, this can be a bit detremental to the gameplay but I have faith that Blizzard are alreading working on a fix and will remedy the issues soon.
What to hope for next
As a pc and console player, I would love to see seasons added to the console versions and ultimately it’s wishful thinking but this type of patch makes you wonder about the future, did someone say Diablo 4?
As a long term Diablo fan and currently a 125 paragon level witch doctor, I am looking forward to delving deeper into this ever growing world that blizzard have created. This patch has definatley delivered and extended the love of the game for many players that may have been waiting for something new.
